How Long Does a Rewire Take?

A full house rewire typically takes between 5 and 10 working days, depending on the size, age and layout of the property. A small flat may take around 3–5 days, while a three-bedroom house often takes 5–7 days; larger or more complex homes can take two weeks or longer. The work is usually completed in two stages: first-fix, when new cables and back boxes are installed, and second-fix, when sockets, switches, lights and the consumer unit are connected after plastering or decorating. Timescales can increase if walls need extensive chasing, access is difficult, the property is occupied, or additional work such as a new fuse board, extra sockets, data cabling or electrical testing is required.
